"When I'm home, I meet with a trainer. I do like an hour, three days a week," Aiko tells E! News. "I just got a bike and I live by the water, so I do that with my daughter, and I love to hike… I just try to do at least some squats when I'm traveling. I have bands and ankle weights." Ankle weights can be useful for exercises like leg lifts, experts say. "The weight places a greater load on the muscle group being targeted. The muscles have to work harder to move this increased load against gravity, and in turn this will increase strength," says Terry Downey, a physical therapist at Harvard-affiliated Spaulding Rehabilitation Network.
"I've worked conscious deep breathing into my skincare and self-care routine throughout the day," Aiko tells Marie Claire. "When I was younger and got my first facial, the aesthetician asked me did I breathe. She's the one that actually told me you should do breathing exercises throughout the day because so many breakouts are caused from stress. A lot of people ask me if I meditate, and to me meditation isn't taking five minutes out of the day to sit by yourself in solitary. I've found that it's really a state of being. It's more about mindful living and making sure that you're constantly checking up on breath and breathing deeply."
Aiko uses Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C Packets to help support her immune health. "I always get seasonal colds, and used to take vitamin C gummies during the cold and flu season," she tells NY Mag. "I started taking this recently, within the past two years. My boyfriend at the time turned me onto it. He had one of the packets and told me to take it one day when I started feeling like I was getting a cold. I felt great within 15 minutes. So then I started reading about it. I saw that it's pretty popular and just kind of researched the brand. I also use its magnesium every day. All of the vitamins come in these little jelly packets that you have to drink with water. Just using them daily, I have actually noticed a difference."
"A few years ago, I took a trip to Big Sur by myself and I met with a shaman…He told me to protect my energy," Aiko says. "He said that he can sense that I'm always giving. I let people take. It was deep. Anyways, he gave me very specific advice. He said that a lot of the time when we're talking to people sincerely, we're speaking from our gut. Any time you feel that you're giving too much or someone is taking too much from you, block your solar plexus. Now, when someone is barking at me, especially in relationship situations, I do that, and it works."
Aiko is a big fan of lux skincare brand La Mer. "I've always been inspired by the ocean. I'm a water sign, a Pisces, so I draw a lot of my inspiration from the ocean. I was really impressed by the work that La Mer does with ocean conservation," Aiko says. "I love the consistency of the creme, and how it's ultra-hydrating but it doesn't feel greasy. Sometimes creams can feel too heavy on my combination skin."
